Sketch of a Big Eye Fairy Angel, March 31 Daily Art Sketches + Sakura Cherry Blossoms Original Painting Website Update...

Here is a sketch of a big eyed gothic maiden.  She is inspired by an image by Gustave DorĂ© for "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner."  Although she looks a bit like a fairy, the book I found her in is titled "DorĂ©'s Angels."  I doubt I'll paint her, but I did enjoy sketching her.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in March.  This is day 31.

This is a rough sketch.  You may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

New Art on my website in the floral art section here

"Sakura San" is my newest addition to my website.  The original acrylic painting is on panel.  The cherry blossoms are sweet and delicate.  This is the third in my series of flowers inspired by sakura.  The art has a soft realist impressionist feel.

My Photograph of Cherry Blossom Flowers at Descanso Gardens + March Sketches Art, Day 30, Elven Angel Fairy...

I took this photograph of cherry blossoms at Descanso Gardens this year, although I do not think the cherry blossom trees are in bloom there right now.  They are such a delicate flower with such a brief blooming perioud, but they are a favorite of mine.  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

I love to paint flowers, you may see some of my finished paintings at www.lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed gothic maiden.  Her head is tilted and her elf ears are peeking out...  I think she is most likely an elven angel fairy, although she could also be a mermaid or goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

8"x10" Open Edition print here
ACEO 2.5"x3.5" Limited Edition LE 1st of 25 here

I also have additional giclee art and ACEO prints here this week from Tuesday to Tuesday with a theme of flowers.  My flowers tend to have a feeling of impressionism and realism; for this group, I selected flowers with more of an impressionist leaning...

Most of my art is also available on my website at www.lisarusso.com; however, I like to put some art on ebay at a lower promotional start rate for the duration of the auctions...  I have been updating my website.  It's an ongoing project, but there is now an excellent selection of art available!

After the auction, "Wildflowers" will be available on my website here.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed gothic maiden.  This is a second sketch of her, I'd like to paint her with betta fish friends...  I haven't decided yet if she is a fairy angel, mermaid, or goddess.  I usually know by now, but this time I don't.  What I'm going to do is try to get the sketch of her right, then I'll place her fish friends in photoshop and decide if she gets wings or not.  It might be too much, but I'm not sure...

Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead Big Eye Art Original Painting Work in Progress WIP + March Sketches, Sketch 25, Puppy Dog...

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP big eye Day of the Dead / Dia de los Muertos fantasy painting, I've done most of her makeup.  I still need to paint in her eyelashes.  Then she gets some shading which I will be attempting to do with glazing.  After that, I'll paint her hair and any touch ups that she needs.  If this weekend were a normal weekend, it's possible I would have her done by Tuesday, but since we'll be celebrating Easter I think it's more likely she'll be done the Tuesday after next...  This is an 8"x10" painting on panel.

This is a work in progress, but I also usually post at least one finished piece on Tuesdays if you'd like to come to visit!  You also may see some of my finished paintings at www.lisarusso.com if you'd like.

I'm joining in this week with Paint Party Friday.  To see more participants, please visit:

Here is a sketch of a sweet little lamb.  It is my second sketch of him, I think I am closer to having my lineart right, but I'm not sure.  I definitely want to paint this little guy, but getting my rough sketch to the point where it's my best possible sketch first is very important to me...

Sketch of a Kitty Cat, March 20 Daily Art Sketches...

Here is a sketch of a reclining cat.  He seems so stretched out and relaxed and yet very alert.  I probably won't paint him because I don't really understand what's going on with his paws, in my reference there's a lot of light in that area and not a lot of form, but I did enjoy sketching him.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed gothic maiden.  I'm playing with an angle and viewpoint that I don't usually attempt, I think this is a less strong sketch, but part of why I am challenging myself to sketch more is to attempt to expand my abilities...  I think she is most likely a fairy angel, although she could also be a mermaid or goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

Here is a sketch of an older Gothic graveyard.  I was drawn to the beautiful tombstones.  This is one of three potential backgrounds I'm sketching for my Wednesday Addams painting.  I started off with about 20 options, narrowed it down to 6, then tried them in photoshop with the sketch of Wednesday.  This is the last of the three I decided to sketch, now I have to choose amongst them and refine the sketch to best suit Wednesday...

Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead Big Eye Art Original Painting Work in Progress WIP + March Sketches, Sketch 11, Fairy Angel...

I've started to do a little on this piece that I started last year.  I should really be working on my lamb, but I'm still refining the sketch.  In this original acrylic work in progress big eye Day of the Dead / Dia de los Muertos fantasy painting, I've done some more layers on her neck and shoulders.  I'd like to move on to her face, I plan on doing most of the shading of her face with glazing, so it will start out looking a bit flat.  However, as I progress with the WIP, it should hopefully improve.  I'm always torn between using wet into wet shading vs. glazing, but on her face I think it makes more sense to do glazing that way her makeup will have elements of shading as well...

This is a work in progress, but I also usually post at least one finished piece on Tuesdays if you'd like to come to visit!  You also may see some of my finished paintings at www.lisarusso.com if you'd like.

My Photograph Cherry Blossoms Flowers at Schabarum Park + March Sketches Art, Day 9, Steampunk Wing...

I took this photograph of these cherry blossom flowers at Schabarum Park last year.  It was at the very end of their blooming season.  I am hopeful of seeing them again there this year, they were so lovely.  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

I love to paint flowers, you may see some of my finished paintings at www.lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Here is a sketch of a potential wing for one of my big eyed gothic maidens.  I want it to have a steampunk feel with a mixture of organic and metal elements.  I like this, but I'm not sure if this is quite it though, I may need to play around with it more.  I've only sketched one of the wings as when I'm happy with it, I'll be able to flip it in photoshop and play around with it there as well.  In some cases my technique involves using a combination of tools, traditional and digital, to do what I hope is my strongest art...

Art Sketch of a Lamb Baby Sheep, March 5 Daily Sketch...

Here is a sketch of a lamb.  This baby sheep is quite the cutie.  Usually around this time of year, I'm painting a bunny, but I'm thinking about painting a lamb this year  I've never drawn a baby sheep before though, so I'd like to do some additional sketches before I decide what direction to go in.  I'm hoping to get more than one done today as I'd like to get started on the painting as soon as possible.  I spent some time on my cherry blossoms yesterday, they are coming along, and I think I'm getting closer on a sketch for my next Gothic fairy angel painting...

Here is a sketch of a big eyed gothic maiden.  She is holding a parasol, oh how I long for a parasol...  I spent some time looking at antique ones, but they looked so delicate.  I've considered taking a regular umbrella and converting it, but I haven't done anything more than think about it, so alas my big floppy hat will have to suffice...  I think she is most likely an angel fairy, although she could also be a mermaid or goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

I took this photograph of this gold and rust hued bearded iris at Huntington Gardens during my most recent visit.  Irises are one of my favorite flowers, I am very tempted to paint this flower.  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

I love to paint flowers, you may see some of my finished paintings at www.lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  I think she has a kawaii gothic Lolita feeling.  She has a sweet soft smile and stars and moons on her cheeks.  I think she is most likely an fairy angel, although she could also be a mermaid or a goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in March.  This is sketch 2.

This is a rough sketch.
